Puerto Vallarta Mexico

This is more than just a coastal resort getaway. Somehow Puerto Vallarta -- also known as "Vallarta" or just "PV" -- maintains a small-town ambience, while still boasting one of the most unique and sophisticated oceanfronts in Mexico. The dining options and the hotel choices reflect more of the same -- you'll find both elegance and efficiency mingled together within the hotel and restaurant areas.

The best time to visit Puerto Vallarta is between April and June, when the weather is pleasant and the room rates are affordable.  At that time there isn't as much rain as the cheapest season in PV (July to September), plus there aren't as many tourists as you'll see at the end of the year. If you're interested in whale watching, however, visit from January to March. Just prepare yourself for the area's most astronomical travel fares.

Cozumel Mexico

Cozumel was a well-known diving spot before Cancún ever existed, and it has ranked for years among the top five dive destinations in the world. Tall reefs line the southwest coast, creating towering walls that offer divers a fairy-tale landscape to explore. For nondivers, it has the beautiful water of the Caribbean with all the accompanying watersports and seaside activities. What's more, Cozumel has the feel of a small island--short roads that don't go very far, lots of mopeds, few buses and trucks, and a sense of isolation. The island is 45km (28 miles) long and 18km (11 miles) wide, and is 19km (12 miles) from the mainland. Most of the terrain is flat, undisturbed scrubland. The name comes from the Maya word Cuzamil, meaning "land of the swallows." Today, it remains the home of two species of birds found nowhere else: the Cozumel vireo and the Cozumel thrasher.

The best time to visit Cozumel is from May to July. The island enjoys daytime temperatures around 80 degrees Fahrenheit and nighttime temperatures in the 70s. Winter temperatures range between the upper 60s and the lower 80s, so we recommend packing layers. The summer months into early fall are the rainy season, and hurricanes have been known to wreak havoc on the island.

Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Playa del Carmen has carved its own Euro-chic niche along the Yucatán Peninsula. Sophisticated expats and vacationing Europeans relax at the beachside lounges, upholding this small enclave's budding reputation as the place in Quintana Roo to see and be seen. The area's nerve center is El Zócalo, and similar to Mediterranean beachfront towns like Nice, the funky little public square is within walking distance of the beach.

The best time to visit Playa del Carmen is between April and May, when there are less people along the shore. Day temperatures hover between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, dropping to around 60 degrees during the evening. From October to March, the climate is generally dry and slightly warm. Summer days and nights tend to offer high temperatures and humidity. Hurricane season lasts from June to September, so check weather forecasts and hurricane warnings before booking your trip.

Beautiful places to visit in Mexico

Yucatan

The Yucatan peninsula sits on the southern tip of Eastern Mexico. A popular area to visit, the peninsula is known for its unique geology, natural beauty, outstanding coastline and ancient Mayan ruins. The state’s national parks shouldn’t be missed nor should the incredible underground lakes otherwise known as the Cenotes.

Oaxaca

Covering a part of Mexico’s south coast, this world heritage city offers both natural and man-made beauty. Famous for its indigenous people and ancient cultures as well as a vibrant art and craft scene – the city makes an exceptional travel destination. When visiting, make sure you explore some of the colourful colonial architecture and also the surrounding area which is abundant with deserted stretches of coastline, thick forests and photogenic waterfalls.

Chiapas

A subtropical paradise characterized by rainforest jungles and ancient Mayan ruins, the Chiapas is certainly one of the most beautiful places to visit in Mexico. Highlights include the river-carved Canyon of Sumidero, the lakes at Montebello and the ancient ruins at Palenque.

The Copper Canyon

This area in the north of Chihuahua is a beautiful environment made up of cliffs and caves. The cliffs join together to make a formation bigger than America’s famous Grand Canyon. Visit for stunning panoramic vistas as well as inspirational canyon walks where the sheer size of nature really helps put life in perspective!

The Bufadora

This sea cave in Baja California is a sight not to miss when visiting Mexico. With the cave at sea level, the tidal surges create a massive spouting geyser accompanied by an eerie sound that won’t be forgotten in a hurry. Join the other people gathering around the cave and sit back and enjoy the show.

Chichen Itza

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Chichen Itza stands as testament to the might of the Mayan civilisation. Dominated by the imposing El Castillo structure this site of extreme archaeological interest is also one of the most stunning spots in the country and should be on everyone’s list of places to visit in Mexico. When planning your trip make sure you allow for a day to visit – the area occupies around a 2.5 square mile radius.

Horsetail Falls

The Cola de Caballo (or horse’s tail) waterfalls in Monterrey draws a huge number of visitors. The cascades are a great photogenic attraction and the surrounding area is also popular with outdoor activity and nature enthusiasts. Book a hotel in the nearby resort and choose from hiking, bungee jumping, canyoneering or (rather aptly) horse riding.

Isla Mujeres

Just a short boat ride from the package holiday favourite Cancun, Isla Mujeres (otherwise known as the Island of the Women) is a perfect tropical paradise which is a world away from the craziness of the mainland. It’s a small island with not an awful lot going on – but that’s the island’s main selling point. Swim, snorkel or just indulge in the sweet art of not doing very much at all.

Cabo San Lucas Arch

The coastal city of Cabo is a tourist hot spot and visitor’s love its sandy beaches, world class diving locations and holiday atmosphere. Although the highlight of Cabo is undoubtedly the beautiful natural rock formations that jut out from the turquoise sea. The Cabo San Lucas Arch sits at the meeting point of two seas and has rightly earned its place in Mexican legend and folklore.

Playa del Carmen, Cancun, Mexico

A resort-city just outside of Cancun, Playa del Carmen is the center of the region known as the Riviera Maya. Playa del Carmen prides itself on its reputation and charm as a fishing village and artists' colony, away from the crowded metropolis of Cancun.

Nohoch Nah Chich, Cancun, Mexico

Mayan for "Giant Bird Cage", Nohoch Nah Chich is an accessible cenote, a series of underwater caves, popular for diving day trips from Cancun and Playa del Carmen. The Nohoch Nah Chich streches 5 miles (8 kilometers) inland, making it the world's second largest underwater cave system. Diving among the delicate white geological formations is for experienced divers only, and is assured to be the experience of a lifetime for diving enthusiasts.
