Subotica (Serbian Cyrillic: Суботица , Hungarian:
Szabadka, Bunjevac: Subotica, Croatian: Subotica) is a city and
municipality in northern Serbia, in the Autonomous Province of
Vojvodina. It is located at 46.07° North, 19.68° East, about 10 km from
the border with Hungary. Tourism is significantly important to the city
due to Palić and the Palić Lake being near by, which is by itself a
tourist destination. In the past few years, Palić has been famous for
the Palić Film Festival. Formerly the largest city of Vojvodina region,
contemporary Subotica is now the second largest city in the province,
following Novi Sad. It is also the fifth largest city in Serbia
(discounting Kosovo) after Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš, and Kragujevac.
